Marc Gallagher, owner of POW·R PC, LLC
Recipient of 2006 Home-Based Business Champion of the Year

Marc Gallagher, owner and operator of POW·R PC, LLC was honored by the Connecticut Small Business Administration, winning both the Regional and District Awards for the 2006 Home-Based Business Champion of the Year. The award was presented at the CT SBA Awards Dinner on June 15th 2006 by Charles E. Summers, Jr., the New England Regional Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration. The ceremony was repeated June 19th at the monthly breakfast of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce where the award was announced with Senator Joseph Lieberman as the distinguished speaker.

Marc started his home-based business in 1996 offering computer solutions to Small Office & Home Office (SOHO) based and small businesses in Connecticut. Marc is Chairperson of the Home Based Business Council that was formed in the fall of 2001. Their mission is to support and serve in-home businesses by promoting the sharing of information through social and professional interaction. The council’s objectives are to resolve issues that arise due to working at home, such as tax consequences of a home office, local planning and zoning issues, disaster planning and publicity, just to name a few. Marc also serves on the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and on the Technology Committee where he was instrumental in instituting free Wi-Fi (wireless) access in the downtown Middletown business district. Middletown became one of the first cities in the nation to offer this complimentary service to its citizenry.

Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Micro-Business Council

In September 2006, based on feedback from it's members and current business trends the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce launched the newly formulated Micro-Business Council (formerly the Home-Based Business Council. Definition: Micro-business -- one with nine or fewer employees). The chamber's Micro-Business Council is designed to support these businesses by promoting the sharing of information through social and professional interaction.  The council focuses on the core disciplines from management, marketing, finance, human resources and leadership. The discussions vary from a myriad of topics, including but not limited to, business start-up, taxes, insurance, marketing, local planning and zoning, management techniques and cash flow. The Micro-Business Council welcomes new members to share their successes and challenges of operating a micro-business in today's competitive economic climate.
